The rate of divorce in America is high and it has even reported by various organizations that the rate is 50%. Data reveal that the figure is very close to the actual one. However, if current trends continue, soon the figure will reach 50% and even more. The marriage breakup rate in America for first marriage is 41% to 50%; the rate after second marriage is from 60% to 67% and the rate in America for 3rd marriage are from 73% to 74%.Reports also say that couples with children have a slightly lower rate of breakup as compared to couples without children.Marriage has been a declining institution among all Americans and this decline is even more evident in the Black community.
"The rise in interracial marriage indicates that race relations have improved over the past quarter century," said Daniel Lichter, a sociology professor at Cornell University.
For example, among intermarried newlywed couples involving whites, white/Asian couples have the highest combined annual earnings (nearly ,000), much higher than the earnings of white/Hispanic couples (about ,000) as well as white/black couples (about ,000).
Also, white/Asian couples have higher combined earnings than either white/white or Asian/Asian couples.
"But America still has a long way to go." The figures come from previous censuses as well as the 2008-2010 American Community Survey, which surveys 3 million households annually.
The figures for "white" refer to those whites who are not of Hispanic ethnicity.
