When I first demo'd my soon-to-be 1960A, I did notice a loss of definition due to the missing handle.
Gear returned in great condition, with only minor signs of use, such as slight scuffs or pick marks.
It looks and plays like new and may be considered an equivalent to display units found in retail stores.
Speakers are extremely important when we are talking about tone. This article will be a (maybe not so) small post about the history of Celestion, as well as a brief description of each model they produced over the years. I’ll simply feature the ones that I think are the most popular and most widely used models. Early years and the G12 Al Ni Co Celestion started as a manufacturer of speakers for general use (radio, TV, etc.) back in the 1920s.
Since 1956, all Celestion chassis drivers have been stamped with a date code (2 numbers and 2 letters), denoting the exact date of manufacture.
Cab is in amazing condition with little to no wear or nicks in the tolex, and has 3 original Fane 122142s one of which I was told has low output and is on the way out but i haven't yet installed it back into the cab to test it. Hylight 4x12 100w/16 1 thick rear panel made of chipboard appears original. fitted by previous owner, Steve Lee, who lived in the SF area in the 70s, brought this with him when he moved to UK. Now loaded w/ (2) Fane 122231 (1 cast, 1 stamped) and (2) Fane 122142 cast frame. Two speakers burnt out, so the previous owner decided to not replace the faulty speakers, and cut it to make it lighter. In 1968 the company started production in Ipswich, moving all production there by 1975.The company merged with a clothing company in 1970 and the result was named Celestion Industries, which in turn became Celestion International in 1979. The codes on the speakers are DM30, DM30, FM12 and CM21. Acquired from original owner, who purchased new from American Music in Seattle. Salt and pepper grill cloth nicely yellowed and intact. Hylight 4x12 Salt and Pepper grille cloth, cut-out handles, rear port, rear loaded with four Celestion G12-65 T2974. Original basketweave tolex and S&P grille cloth, stamped frame 122142 Fanes, 06/76 date, excellent condition for its age. A bit mangled and missing front logo plate getting a replacement soon!
